One ant, then a problem

Idle Ants starts with a single ant carrying a crumb and ends with a colony dismantling a picnic. You buy more ants, faster ants and stronger ants, and they carry food back on their own while you decide what to spend on next.

It is one of the most legible idle games there is: the number going up is visible on screen as actual ants moving actual objects.

Ants, speed or strength?

• Early on, more ants. Quantity scales the whole operation and nothing else does yet.
• Once the screen is busy, speed — the walk back to the nest is where the time goes.
• Strength only matters when a food item is too heavy for the ants you have. Buy it when something on screen is being ignored, not before.

Reading the field

If ants are clustering around one item and nothing is moving, that item needs more strength or more ants on it. If they are walking a long way with small crumbs, you need speed.

The game tells you what to buy by showing you what is going wrong — which is a design most idle games do not bother with.
