Where clicking becomes idling

Clicker Heroes is the bridge between the two halves of the genre. You start by clicking a monster to death, then hire heroes who attack on their own, and within an hour your own clicking is irrelevant next to their damage. The monsters get tougher on a curve steeper than your income, so progress is a series of walls.

Every wall is meant to be hit. Running out of damage is the signal to change strategy, not a mistake.

Heroes, levels and gilding

• Level your newest hero rather than spreading gold evenly — later heroes scale far harder than earlier ones.
• Hero levels at 25, 50, 75 and above unlock skill upgrades that are usually worth more than the raw damage.
• Gilded heroes get a very large damage multiplier. Concentrate gildings on one strong late hero rather than scattering them.

Ascension is the real progression

Ascending resets your heroes and gold in exchange for hero souls, which buy permanent ancients. Like every prestige system it feels like a loss and it is the only way forward — the run after an ascension reaches your previous wall in a fraction of the time.

Ascend when progress has genuinely stopped for several minutes, not the moment the option appears.

Which ancients to buy first

Prioritise the ones that increase gold found and idle damage. Damage ancients look more attractive and do less, because the bottleneck is almost always the gold needed to level heroes rather than the damage itself.

If you intend to leave the game running rather than sit with it, take the idle bonuses over the click bonuses without exception.
